In Sept 2016 Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust announced it was looking for a new manager for its Rutland Water Nature Reserve. The announcement said that, “The current Reserve Manager, Tim Appleton MBE, is stepping down after more than 40 very successful years in post. Going forward, Tim will be employed with a specific focus on developing Birdfair, a major event he co-founded 30 years ago which is held annually every August at the nature reserve."
